I'm thinking about renting an empty car lot for one day and holding a "For Sale By Owner" event. First I wanted to get some input from forum members if this would be something they'd be interested in, and secondly, I'd like to be able to recoup the rental costs and charge a nominal fee to sellers. Any input from this group would be valuable and help me decide whether to do this or not.

i think they have that at the isle of capri once a year, or used to. promote it right, you could probably do it. we need a legit swap meet.

+1 on swap meet I went the one at cordova I got laughed at multiple times looking for sbf stuff... I felt like I was at auto rons again

Alter hosts the auctions at the Isle pretty often, they actually own those lots west of the overpass. I could probably put you in contact with the right people if you wanted to use those lots.

dave, wasnt there a for sale by owner thing though? not the truck auction, there used to be a sign that would randomly pop up by the paddlewheel, seems like it was out in what used to be the valet lot, but they changed all that crap around.

Swap meet would be nice. Have to keep the Kobles of the world out. Too much wailing and nashing of teeth at the low ballery.

Russ, Not sure. I remember one years ago but it's just the Alter auctions now. We use those west lots occasionally (Power Tour, bike Tour, concerts) but the east lots are just parking now.
I thought there was one this weekend in Bettendorf. I was going to go to it but forgot. lol

Thanks for the input, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ahead and give this a try. My neighbor bought one of the old Zimmerman Honda buildings in downtown Rock Island (the former body shop at 5th ave & 21st St.) and I know he'll work with me on the rent. Also, I do banners, vinyl, etc., on the side so I think between that and the internet I can promote it. My big concern is how much to charge to put a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, etc. there for the day. I've heard anywhere from $15-$35, but I want to keep the cost down, but make sure I can meet the expenses for the day (and keep my wife off my back). Anyway, thanks for the comments and any other advice anyone can add would be appreciated. I'm thinking about doing this the 3rd week in October.
