Just seeing what might be out there for upgrading the rear on the new car, finally getting issues all lined out and wanting to be able to play around this spring a bit. Anything local to the area worth checking out before I buy something online?
Edit: Upgrade = something other than the 10 bolt.

Strange S60: 9-3/4" ring gear, 35 spline axles, extremely heavy duty, but also very heavy, best bang for the buck IMO.
Ford 9": Made by Moser and Midwest Chassis, generally lighter than the S60, eats up the most power due to pinion design.
12 Bolt: Made by Strange and Moser, lighter and saps less power than first two, but not as strong and prone to gear whine after a couple of hard launches.
Ford 8.8: Cheapest by far but requires a lot of fab work on your part, wide variety of gear ratios.
Midwest Chassis and Strange engineering are somewhat local. Strange is in Chicago and MWC is in Peoria. There are plenty of choices, it really just depends on your budget

I came across a guy on a few facebook pages that has been using explorer 8.8's and a hiltsy mount along with donor stock 10 bolt axles tubes, but not entirely sure how much I'd like to trust it with a sticky tire and an m6 car. Trying to either come across something used or find a somewhat cheaper new option, which so far looks like quick performance's 9" package out of Ames, IA.

The 8.8s can be 3 very bit as song as a 9 inch, deffinatly run c clip eliminator. The explorer rear ends are awesome and come factory with 31 spline axels. Upgrading, mine is making a noise somewhere, could be a wheel bearing but not sure and really not wanting to put any money into it that I could use towards something else. So far it's looking like for my end goals with this car an 8.8 is going to be what I end up going with. If I had an auto car I wouldn't worry about it much but being m6 and since I just bought a set of Weld RTS's I figure I might as well upgrade it and not worry.
Guy named Josh Townsend (His facebook page is TNT Fabrication) has been doing the 8.8 conversion's for $600, plus a set a $300 axles and the donor rears and the ability to use everything from the stock driveline has certainly been the most cost effective option and so far He hasn't had anyone break one yet, with most of the cars having more power than mine will.
Rob- If you are looking for something low mileage, there's a guy that was selling his 17k mile 4 channel rear end complete for $300 near St. Louis, I can see if he still has it if you don't mind the drive.

I saw that, he is down to 250 but there is no guarantee its not bad (I snapped my old rear end on the lt1 car in less than 30K)
