Alot of you guys don't know me but Jaime, Nick, And Ben do. As for what jaime has said make sure you think this through and know what you are getting into. Money is one thing but the biggest thing is time. I did an engine replacement on my dads explorer and I just didn't have the time all the time. It took me a year to finally finish it up. I am not trying to discourage you because I think it is awesome you want to dive in to learn. That is basically what I did when I started working on vehicles. Anyways best of luck in your endeavor.

Are you using a lift to drop the motor? If not make sure you have a tall set of jack stands. I left the back of the car down jacked up the front and used a set of craftsman jackstands , the angle was enough to get the motor under the radiator support w/o the wheels on. From the bottom I thought was pretty easy, just did it 4 months ago on my LT1. No scratching up the engine compartment, it was nice going from the bottom.

hey spuds it will be MUCH easier reinstalling the LT1 from the bottom by pulling the whole k-member out when you pull the motor. I did the pulling from the top but am going to reinstall with the k-member attached. these things are fun to tear down but they are right about needing time and not anticipating your expenses beforehand because my build went up in price once I started pricing everything. If you need any help or advice I am here to help I am going through this as we speak. here is a pic of my motor out and pulled apart: and a pic of the car with no motor in it.
