Is "roll" racing for fags?

'K... everybody and their brother on here seems to slam roll racing, but I swear that 95% of the races I've ever been in on the street have been from at least 20mph and up! I don't usually instigate a race (20 years ago I did though!), but it usually happens when driving around and somebody pulls up next to me and gives the usual "signs" that they wanna run. Or, if I'm next to them at a light, usually both parties leave easy and see who is going to go WOT first. I almost always oblige them, but am I supposed to stop first and THEN race them?! That's the main reason I don't really care that I still have wide tires all around (gasp!) and my battery is still up front (eek!) and my front swaybar is on (yikes!)... does this make me a wuss?

I don't get it either, I don't mind racing from a dig, but just like you, most of mine are from a 20-40mph start. Oh well.

I try to keep most racing to places like the John Deere Expressway (down by Johndeer) or on the interstate, and well...yeah it's kinda hard to completely stop on either place. Roll racing's pretty much a must for most racers unless they know about completely deserted area's where you can go from a dig. Reguardless, roll racing isn't for fags.

...most street races happen from a roll... period. If someone has a beef with you, ya take them out somewhere from a stop and bash it out. Period. Best way to see how fast someones car is (usually) is by catching them from 30 mph. Way too many variables with traction on the street.

Think of it like racing on foot. Do you jog next to your opponent before you really take off? NO! You race from dead stop to whatever, in this case 1320, or you have decided that your car is faster and let out.

"Roll" racing is a "Gift" from the one who has more traction to the one with less traction, so that the person with less traction can try to redeem themselves.

I think it's easier to get away with roll races. It never works out when I try to set up a race at a light cause by the time you've both agreed to race the light has changed.

Thats why you don't use streets in general for racing, you go somewhere remote and set up the race with a flagger or high beam start.

I agree with Jamie on this one if you are confronted be a stranger on the road who wants to race then that is OK but if you are setting up a race with someone then the idea of a roll race is gay

Yeah it really all depends. If someone is talking smack then I won't to anything but a dig. Because if someone is talking shit then there saying not only is your car slow but i can outdrive you. Dig racing takes some skill, especially on public roads. But if I'm out cruising and someone comes up next to me goosing it. I don't see the reason to stop to race, I get it started right then. ;D

If your just trying to see who's car is actually faster then 2nd gear and up roll racing is the way to tell as there is less chance for error and it's all about hp and torque at that point (well weight and others too but you get the point)

Racing from a roll would give me a big advantage, I'm still running stock highway gears and an open rearend.
I try to keep my racing at Cordova anymore. Nobody to turn in front of me.

with my T/A it dosen't matter... but the Z24 tends to break stuff if i race from a dig.. atleast from a roll there is less chance of me snapping another CV.

I don't usually race on the street anymore, too many stupid people out there.

I think everyone's pretty much offered valid points. Rolls are more common, and definitely easier to setup, less likely to get caught, and less prone to breaking things. Racing from a dig is more objective, places greater emphasis on the driver's ability. It also is more complete, taking the weight and suspension work into account. If people were strictly interested in comparing their car's performance, they could wave around dyno sheets all day.

I prefer racing from a stop and think it's the best way in which scores are settled, but in the past if a FWD racer wanted to go from a roll, I've had no problems accomodating. Winning or losing, it's all been fun for me.

I like both, but roll racing seems easier on the car.
