I received an $80 window tint ticket on Saturday. I was thinking big deal. Trooper tells me that if there is a second offense then DOT will suspend my registration privileges for that vehicle until it is taken care of.
That is news to me. It was the wife's car so needless to say it no longer has tint on the front windows.
Just a heads-up for those, like me, who didn't know.

When my buddy got his tint ticket the other day he thought he would be a smart ass and asked the cop if he had any way to test the tint to see if it was too dark and the cop said yup and went back to his car and got some light tester thingy and sure enough it was like 10% too dark. Not that I want my friends to get tickets but i thought it was kinda funny that when he called the cop out on it they actually have a tester for it.

There is one legal way to keep tint on your windows....In Illinois, if you can get your doctor to write a slip you can get a license plate the ends in WT and it is totally legal and you can go as dark as you want, even on the windshield. I know a guy that did it and all he told his doctor is that the sun gives him headaches. I might try it if I get another one.

There is a way to get a prescription from a doctor to have tint on a vehicle, but it's not worth it. I had a long talk with a state trooper in his car regarding tint laws. I was pulled over right before getting on to 74 by the dent devil place. Cop walks up to the passenger side of my truck, turns out my tint on the side windows were "%7", and having modified tail lights was illegal.
Turns out, you can only have %35 percent from the doctor, and like %70 legally on the front windows in Iowa. Why and the hell they are giving $85 dollar tint tickets, I don't know. In the 10 years I've lived here, I've never received a tint ticket until this year, which happened twice, got a warning the third time. Also, the cop in Bettendorf in a brown unmarked crown vic, that you see parked at various places-like just under the Lincoln Rd Bridge on 74, specifically spends his entire day everyday on traffic duty. I think his name is Paul, but he loves to give out tint tickets.

If cops are just now starting to give out tint tickets that means that the big deal crimes like robbery or vandalism, arson, the stuff that actually makes a difference when you stop it, isn't happening, think about it! if cops have nothing better to do all day than give out tint tickets, obviously there's nothing better TO do, so i say we go out and encourage some kids to steal shit, or break something and is that "Paul" guy from bettendorf old? because that's usually what cops do when they know they're about to retire or not be in the department much longer, just sit out and issue traffic tickets

Maybe in his 40s. I know someone that works at the station and hes told me that Bettendorf has two traffic duty only police officers. Their job is literally just to work traffic all day and not to give anyone breaks. I was pulled over this spring on my bike for going 11 over for a split second so I could get over to get in the turning lane. The cop admitted that I was going with the flow of traffic and the speed the whole time, until i had to get over. Luckily I didn't recieve a ticket for my tinted windscreen or for my tinted helmet. As far as Illinois goes, I know there was a bill introduced a few months ago to allow tint. It had reached the Governor recently, and he didn't veto it, but made it so that it had to be revamped. "In related news, HB3325 passed the house recently, and is currently being considered in the senate. Essentially, if this passes (it's already through the senate transportation committee, and the votes suggest there is zero opposition to this), you can go one of three ways: Same as today: nothing up front, dark as you want in the back Up to 50% (+/- 5%) in the front, and up to 30% (+/- 5%) in the back Up to 35% all around. This is very good news, and apparently, the FOP is actually on-board with this." www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?GAID=10&GA=96&DocNum=3325&DocTypeID=HB&SessionID=76&LegID=46080&SpecSess=0&Session=0#actionsLooks like we are good to go, just not yet. A minor change is need. www.ilga.gov/legislation/96/HB/09600HB3325gms.htmAugust 25, 2009 To the Honorable Members of the Illinois House of Representatives 96th General Assembly I hereby return House Bill 3325 with a specific recommendation for change. I thank the sponsors for their hard work on this legislation. While I approve of the objective of this legislation, a technical change is necessary to correct a flaw in the bill as drafted. If this bill were to become law as written, driving multipurpose passenger vehicles (sport utilities) that have their rear windows factory tinted would violate the law. Therefore, pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(e) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby return House Bill 3325, entitled “AN ACT concerning transportation”, with the following specific recommendation for change: on page 6, by replacing lines 7 through 13 with “(3) on multipurpose passenger vehicles, as defined by Section 1-148.3b of this Code, with a nonreflective tint originally applied by the manufacturer on the windows to the rear of the driver’s seat, the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver may be treated with a nonreflective tint that allows at least 50% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by a law enforcement official metering the light transmittance.”. With these changes, House Bill 3325 will have my approval. I respectfully request your concurrence. Sincerely, PAT QUINN Governor urvi is offline Report Post Reply With Quote

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.. I was pulled over last night around midnight.. Not a beer in me.. Yet.. hehee Thankfully it was only a warning, but this is still complete bull shit.. Why should a little bit of tint matter? I'm pretty sure in the southern states its legal, since the sun can do major damage to your interior.
They don't even give a shit, but I bought my truck from a used car dealership in IL this way and I have been driving it around like this for 5 years. I've been pulled over plenty of times and never had anyone say a word about my windows.. Now this?

When did Iowa go up to 70%? Didn't it used to be 35%? Probably when they realized they were going to have a shortfall in the budget. Can't we just pay them more taxes and have them leave us alone?
