91 LX 5.0 5-speed
This car is a side project ive had for awhile that i never did anything with untill late this past fall. I obtained the car from Ninety7.3 in a straight up trade for my motorcycle that i had been haveing trouble selling at the time:
'79 kawasaki kz900
I was always partial to the car from when i helped ninety7.3 with his engine bay clean-up project
BEFORE
AFTER
Since this time he had lost interest in the car and was ready to part it out. But he had always liked my kaw and offered me a straight up trade before he had sold anything off of it. After two days of kicking the idea around we were swapping titles....
Car when i got:
When i received the car it had a black stock hood on it due to a fly up incident ninety7.3 had experienced and would start and run with some coaxing but was not very happy while running. I let the car sit for a year and half till i finally got around to messing with it, but this fall we got a trailor and hauled it to ninety7.3's place where we dropped it in the driveway. (still had some cleaning to do to get the car in the garage) A few days later the garage was clean and somehow we got the car to start and hobbled it into the garage.
After this it took at least a month to get the motor pulled
because we are often distracted by BEER, BAGS (including many wager games), and SHIT TALKING while in the garage
Once we got the motor out and striped down we found the top end noise that didnt sound good while running, honestly idk how it even ran:
From here it was time to put back together, so i collected parts and slowly put a motor together with spare parts i had as well as buying some new/used parts with a CHEAP BUDGET in mind. The heart was a treasure ninety7.3 found when he bought a "302" off a freind years ago, only it wasnt a 302.....
I beleive it comes out to a 310ci or something like that
from here i tossed a steeda#19 cam in that i had laying around AND made sure that timing was correct because it was a tooth off in the old motor which prbly caused the bent push rods, and then GLENNSTER hooked me up with some STRAIGHT stock pushrods, (still owe you one). To top the motor off i was goin to just reuse the junk e7's i had taken off but decided to toss some cast 351 heads that had new valves and springs on it as well as some 1.7rr i scored off fmust88 for super cheap.
and now i had a decision to make stay efi or swap to carb... i choose carb because i wanted to steal some of the parts for my other car so i topped the motor with a professional products air-gap type intake and a 650 edeljunk on top of that courtesy of cj sdime durbin.
just recently i finally got around to droping the new motor in
the car is a little farther than this right now but im outta pics...so untill next time qcaaf........ enjoy!
