Its just a coating....remove it with a grinder for your best chance at a good weld. I am a welding engineer so feel free to ask any questions. Patriotformula is a great fabricator too, I don't know anyone else to the forum that fabricates but I am sure there are plenty more.

You can weld aluminized without taking it off, but like ssmonte said it won't look as nice when done especially if you're tiggin dat shit.
