Hey everyone,
I am looking at a 1995 302 roller motor that has been switched over to a carb and manual fuel pump. The engine has a new water pump, holly carb, 4 barrel aluminum intake, pulleys, new timing chains, and a few other odds and ends. I have been doing some research on whether the motor will just go right in to my 1967 mustang or I will have to do a bunch of modifications. I have heard from some people that it will fit just fine but others say that I need to use the original oil pan from my 289 or an old 302 and use the pickup and filter from that as well. I have also read that I can just use my 289 motor mounts and the 302 will bolt right up.
Has anyone made this conversion or know someone who has and can give any helpful input. Thank you for any help you can provide.

All that sounds correct to me, you should be able to use the original motor mounts from the 289. The oil pan will probably have to be switched and the pickup should go along with the pan as well.
Other things to remember is the accocories on the front the engine wont just bolt on, front cover and water pump are different, balancer has different # of bolts. Also make sure you use the correct balance weight on flexplate/flywheel for the ENGINE and the right # of teeth. The older 289 MIGHT use a difference balance flywheel Im not 100% sure. oh yeah and take a close look at the inside of the water pump because the late model ones are reverse rotation and old school ones are standard.
Sounds like your 5.0 might already some old school parts bolted to it already if it has a mechanical pump on it..

Thanks for the response.
The motor has been set up with some old school stuff. He has a holly carb with aluminum intake, new distributer, machined for mechanical fuel pump, over drive pulleys, new timing cover. It is set up to run a serpentine belt. I have read several places that the flywheel should be 50oz balanced. The water pump is a reverse rotation water pump. I was thinking of just keeping the serpentine setup so I don't have to get a different belt.
What do you think is a good price for a roller motor with lower miles?
Thanks again for your help and info
