So this weekend I bought my first new car ever, a 2013 Subaru BRZ in Limited trim with World Rally Blue Pearl paint. Manual transmission of course, with several options: auto-dimming HomeLink mirror w/compass, locking wheel lugs, clear wrap on rear bumper for protection, rear cargo mat, and chrome side spears (told them to toss those in the trash and put the OEM body paint ones back on).
Grabbed the car with 12 miles on Saturday and am currently at just over 500 miles. LOTS of driving to get the break-in period over quickly. I plan on using this possibly for Autocross on September 22. So in the past 500mi, I've decided I absolutely love this thing. It is unbelievably fun! Razor sharp steering, instantaneous throttle response, and an extremely tight/communicative chassis.
It does have a fairly stiff ride, even with the crappy Michelin Primacy tires. The seats are great and fit me perfectly, holding me in place well. I did notice, however, that after extremely long road trips my right side starts hurting a bit. I think it's the narrow seats and possibly the way I must be sitting to use the pedals. I feel straight in the seat, so not sure on that. I have noticed a few very interesting characteristics of the car/handling. We tackled a round about in the area with no other cars around and I went around it, progressively putting the throttle down to find the limit. What I did find, is that the harder I pushed the throttle, the more front end seemed to tuck in toward the inside the turn and the left front tire would bite in more and more. Eventually, I could feel the back end starting to step out ever so slightly. By that time, I was REALLY hauling ass around it by my 4th time or so around. Even with those tires, it has an amazing level of grip. The other odd thing, is when you're coming around a long sweeping turn at high speed, the back end starts to do this tiny hop like it's skipping sideways. Very odd and I'm sure it's the tires. You can feel this in the car and it's ever so slight, and my friends saw it behind me.
Anyway, car is awesome and I've only found a couple things I don't like. There is no arm rest and the factory speakers are garbage. Other than that, I really can't think of any other complaints. This car will be turned into a corner carver and I'll be doing everything I can to shed weight and maximize grip. Should be fun. I'll update as I go along.
