So you want it to be engaged when you are at 1/2 throttle not WOT?

I always just bend the thin metal arm up on the micro switch until it makes contact where I want it too.

I deal with those switches for a living, it doesn't take much to break the arms off (we use the same ones in slot machines).
I'd make a new bracket and rotate the switch ~90 degrees CCW so the throttle arm sweeps across it. You can get ones with longer arms as well. That way you can pretty much dial in the downshifts by bending the arm and stacking washers on the carb stud.
On my '82 Trans Am I rigged up a switch on the shifter (the one that guys use for a line-lock) to run the kickdown on the 400. Instant downshifts, always worked good.

Yeah I knixed the Micro switch! I had my Lokar electric kick-down and reused it with a 7oor throttle lever. Lots going on there with the throttle not being very parallel and not allowing the throttle to open COMPLETLY.

Lots going on there with the throttle not being very parallel and not allowing the throttle to open COMPLETLY. That's why i gave up on mine too. I did have a big carb stud mounted slider switch and a bracket/linkage that i took out of a 1 ton truck at the junk yard. It would have worked but the button on the shifter was more fun.
