F-body power steering pumps seem to suck from what I've been reading but several times now when it's been cold my pump is whining non stop even with fresh fluid (full)... any thoughts? Is it the pump seals?

Mine has been doing the same thing. Not sure what a fix is either.

Could be the P/S pulley or the pump could be on its way out. Do you have a P/S cooler?

No cooler. Checked it and it was half full. I found a spot where the car was parked when I got home. It had been sitting for about a week so it must have a leak or something. I filled it up and it's been fine... Was -8 when I left for work so I didn't check it right away like I should have.

Pump whine for sure. 100% final answer.

I would say it's probably getting time to replace the pump. Also, I would ditch the POS stock cooler if you still have it and invest in a aftermarket cooler.

Do they come with coolers? I don't think I have one, not that I have noticed anyways.

I think f-bodies 2000+ came with a P/S "cooler" but it's really more of a heater as it does nothing to cool it. If you have one you'll see a metal section in the center of the top radiator hose. The thing is a joke and is infamous for allowing the P/S fluid and coolant to mix. Here is a picture of it:

Definitely don't have that. I've all it all out several times now and my hoses are all rubber.

I'm planning on deleting mine this summer and going with an aftermarket cooler. I'll be flushing the old fluid out too since it looks like someone poured dex-cool in the reservoir.

Yeah mine has an Orangeish color to it. Need to drain and refill.
