Had the opportunity to attend a performance driving school a couple weeks ago out at Mid America in western IA. It was my first time driving on a real road course, and the most fun I've ever had driving a car.
In this video I am chasing down a Lotus Exige S and a Z4 coupe.

Very cool! Do you have any more information about the driving school?

it was the BMW CCA's annual Longest Day Driving School. They do it every year around this time, I've been wanting to go for years but it just never worked out for one reason or another. I got around 200min of on track driving time, plus several ride alongs, and classroom time. It is a 2 day school, you will have your own instructor through the entire school. Instructors had only 2 students each, so you got a lot of 1on1 instruction. And they ride along with you, so they can talk you through exactly what you did wrong and what you can do to improve.
I would highly recommend it for anyone. You can learn a lot about car control, and they have a fantastic safety record out there. MAM is probably the perfect track to do it, since there is a ton of runoff at almost every turn. Really there is only one turn on the track where you have a wall you could contact. Many tracks have walls and barriers all over that would really fuck your shit up if you lost it.

I've been dying to get the z06 on a track where it belongs. Contact me next time you head there. I'd definitely go with.
What was the cost of the event?
How much wear did this event do to your tires and brakes?

I think cost was $350 for both days. While not cheap, is really pretty good since track time normally runs around that, and there you get personal instruction too!
As for wear and tear, I was running pretty sticky tires and they still didn't seem to wear noticeably. I'm sure I could get at least a half dozen track weekends out of them. A typical street compound tire will last longer of course. Brakes I have not checked yet, I doubt I could have use more than half a set of pads. But this sort of driving is not easy on them for sure. At the end of the 2nd day, I let my car sit for a half hour before changing the wheels, and the lug-nuts were still too hot to handle without gloves! There will be a ton of heat to dissapate after a 25 min session, that is why they tell you do NOT set the parking brake or drive through a puddle and splash water on your rotors. Either is bad news.
