I'm getting tuned to e-85 in a couple weeks. I know where the stations are but where is everyone getting e-98 to keep the mix right?

I might be dumb but why you mixing the two? The e-85 tune I had on my car was just e-85. All my friends also just run it right out the pump. Maybe I can learn something today.

Winter blend is e-70 and the pump e-85 isn't consistent. I want my tune to be with e-85 so he can get the best HP. Mixing e-98 with e-70 until I get to e-85.

www.e98racing.com/find_fuel.htmWe used to use E98 + Aviation 105 low lead in the dragster. We have since switched to M85 using the same 105 and VP M1. I would recommend getting E98 and mixing it with pump 91 or 89. I would skip getting the winter blend crap because you are just making a already inconsistent fuel, more inconsistent. If you get E98 and mix it with straight gasoline you can get E85 every time and figure out very closely what your octane rating is going to be.

I just went out there and got my first fill to get the GSX going...I heard also they dont switch to a winter blend like the BP's do in Davenport. Dont they make a tester kit of some sort also? (2.99/ gal) Forgot about that sweet smell!

LoL - That is why I posted the link... It's a list of manufacturers and distributors. We had to call around most times to find someone to sell us a drum. We did what the link suggests and called around, explained our situation and most of the time someone was able to tell us who to call to get it.
Therefore, I can't tell you "Go here, they can get it." Because A)We haven't bought it in two years now and B)New plants have come online since we have bought it so you may be able to find a source closer. Shipping on a drum is more than you pay for the fuel inside of it most of the time.

Curious as to why you would mix gasoline with methanol?... Gas doesn't mix with methanol like it does with ethanol.

Curious as to why you would mix gasoline with methanol?... Gas doesn't mix with methanol like it does with ethanol. That's news to me. Has worked well so far. We switched because the owner of the car wanted to and because we also run 2 top alcohol cars so there is always a barrel or two or three of M1 in his shop. Also, we don't run an intercooler. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M85_fuel

Sooo what's the reason for the gas?, why not just run pure methanol like every other pipe rack?

We already have a massive and expensive enough fuel system. With M1 we'd have to go even bigger. Lastly, it's easier to start.

focus02,
I have been running E85 for a few years and I can tell you there is not a station in the area that keeps true 85% E85 year round. They all go to an E70 mix in winter and vary in between during fall/spring. Years ago maybe the Fast Stop station in Silvis did but when I called the station after I made the switch I was told "we have to blend it down to E70 or the new Chevy trucks wont start in the cold"...must have been a Ford guy. I was hell bent on keeping all my E85 right on 85% so I started looking into buying E98 and mixing my own or using it to bring E70 up. I spent a lot of time making phone calls and doing research and either came up empty or with an option that was not cost effective. That was 3 years ago so maybe now it is a little easier to find. I now have about 10 gas jugs that I try to keep filled with the good summer blend and conserve it through the fall/spring. When I have to use what I can get I just change jetting. I use the cheap tester you can get for about $20 online..you just add a little water and some E85 in a tube and read the separation line. I will tell you I only use E85 from the Fast Stop station in Silvis. It is just about perfectly clear and does not smell horrible like the stuff from the BP's in Davenport.

do you just get 1 tester for $20? Or can you reuse it with multiple batches of gas?

do you just get 1 tester for $20? Or can you reuse it with multiple batches of gas? It's just a graduated cylinder with marks on the correct positions and a rubber/plastic cap. So, yes it's reusable.
