Here is the truck after the first round of improvements over the winter. After driving the truck this year, I have really enjoyed it since the first build (http://qcaautoforums.proboards.com/thread/12927/86-s10-dd-build). It ended up getting 21 mpg with the 4.8L/4L60e combo. Buuuuuut, there is always room for improvement……. And so begins round 2 action!!! Starting with the 6 speed swap because the cobra blower will involve a little more custom work. Step one was to swap over the pedal assembly and master cylinder from classysdime’s truck which is no longer a stick. FYI, this was a PITA Next up, yank the 4L60e After a few test fits, we had a hole in the floor, the trans in place and the crossmember was notched to fit the new mount location which was further back and lower. The new ls2 flywheel, ls7 clutch and the bell housing are in place. And Booooom its all together. The exhaust still fits, stock driveshaft fits, stock s10 master cylinder seems to operate the clutch just fine and had to make a bracket to angle the shifter handle slightly forward to clear the bench seat. As far as the tune and wiring go, all i have done so far is plug in the vss and made some idle adjustments to the 4l60e tune and it seems to run great. Although it does need the fuel table gone back over because it is getting into some cells that were never tuned with the auto setup. Its been just over a week since the swap and I have about 500 miles on the new clutch so the beating has begun. No broken axles so far Overall the 6 speed makes the truck way more fun to drive and i should get a little better gas mileage as well. More to come once the blower swap begins.

That looks awesome! Nice job. If you need some help getting exact measurements for an adapter plate for the blower let me know. I have a stock cobra blower and access to a cmm for it.

Well I haven't decided how technical I want to get with this. I may keep this to some garage built stuff that any at home guy could do. My other option is to model it all up in cad and have everything cut by a shop.

Ya, when I make adapter plates I use the cmm and basically get all the exact points and edges from it save it as an IGIS file then open it in CAD and connect the lines and points and draw it as a solid model. Then program it with the cam side and machine it. Works perfectly!

Thanks, im trying to make the most out of the motivation while I still have. Oh and I should have I tig welder waiting for me when I get back in town in a few weeks Vador, ill pm you when im getting ready to design this intake and take you up on the cmm. I might even con you into doing the flanges on an ls intake so I can more easily solid model the whole thing.

Yeah im getting pretty excited about it too. The next question is once i get bored of the stock pulley after about a week, what should i do to keep the intake charge cool when i get a ported and pullied blower? Plan ahead and build some custom water to air setup in the intake? Throw some water/meth at it? Or build some crazy air to air setup for the blower to push through? ............ hmmmmmm

Then you would have to get a coolant tank, intercooler pump, and hoses to go from pump and heat exchanger to the tank and intercooler. That is my $.02. Also, if you could some how run the factory lower intake people have had great success when they drill and tap fittings into the bottom of the factory lower intake and run meth that way(after blower/intercooler).

I would do water/air + Meth. But I wouldn't do the factory setup either. If you have some extra $$ to play with look at a Trick intercooler setup. They have huge inlets and outlets compared to the factory stuff and the cores are as big as they get. www.shop.trickperformanceproducts.com/Ford-Stage-3-Lightning-intercooler-Ford-Stage-3.htmThat is their model for the Lightning but I would contact them anyway and see if it would be compatible or what they have for you application otherwise.

I have looked into the factory air to water intercooler but the issue is it would be way to tall to fit the stock hood. The ls engine doesn't have a massive valley to hide it in like the 4.6. I still might consider it with a 2" cowl but I also want to keep the budget in mind because all that a to w stuff gets expensive.
I have also looked on jegs and they have some universal intercooler cores so I could always build my own which would be cheaper than even using the stock cobra core
You guys have any guess how much boost I could get away with having no intercooler and just water/meth?

Really, your own style one would be cheaper then factory? I guess that the factory cobra stuff is getting difficult and expensive at times to find. I don't know the LS engines very well to give you a number on the boost level that is ok without intercooling and using meth.

Yeah I had to take off around 3 to be in missouri the next morning for work.
Ive also changed directions with the next stage of the s10 build. The cost of intercooling the blower project was just going to take the "budget" out of the budget build.
Ill post some updates soon with the new plans soon

How about we just skip the "budget" part and go straight to the 427 twin 76mm..... sounds like a good "engineering" project!

The blower came back from Stiegemeiers and they did a great job. Also put everything on a spare 5.3 to make up a bracket for an extra idler pulley to get better belt wrap on the blower. Also picked up a new belt that fits everything. The setup should be ready to bolt back up to the truck soon and start a throttle bracket, air intake and some rework on the fuel system.
