I've got a sbc I'm going to spray for the first time and looking for advice. I plan on regarding timing 1* per 50hp shot. My fuel is 112, should I up the octane. Spark plugs? It is high compression 13.5to1. Forged srp pistons.

I see this is an old thread, but it doesn't look like anyone replied. What type of power increase are you looking for? I know you indicated retarding the timing 1° per 50hp shot, but I'm not sure if you're stopping at 50. Many racers seem to get by fine with premium pump gas for 50hp shots. NGK spark plugs favored by quite a few nitrous runners. They have an info doc setup here: www.ngksparkplugs.com/docs/tech/How_Nitrous_Oxide_Affects.pdf

i wasnt stopping at 50, just using that as a reference. system is good to 250. really im just curious what others were doing with their sbc high comp. plate setups. if i can get it right on a 150 hit id be happy with it...

1* retard per 50 hp, sounds like a death sentence for those piston and rings? How did this work out for you?
What we don't know is if your base timing is 36-38 degrees or 30-32. This is going to effect what you have to pull out. For a 250 hit I may start at a title timing of 20 to 22* on a high comp sbc.
