what grit of sand paper should i use to get some surface rust off, what type of primer should i buy that is able to paint over if there is any that is in a spray can. thanks

Depends? How large of an area are you trying to get rid of? and do you plan on re painting or just rocking the primer?

You can start off with da of 180 and see if it sands out. make sure you feather the area out. (you will begin to see each layer, primer, sealer, color and clear. each layer should be about a half in to an inch.) Then switch to 320 da and sand out all the 180 sand scratches. You can buy the primer in a can at Keystone. follow the directions. Then you can use sealer and color and clear. Should be good to go. The only problem with rockin primer is it will eventuly come off with rain and so forth. and you will have to re prime when you are ready to paint. Let me know if you have any questions... dont they make a paint called like p o r ....paint over rust or someshit people use it on like frame rails and shit? idunno if its what hes looking for or not just thought id say my .02

That stuff works great on frame rails and undercarriage... buy a cheep paint gun and spray it on ....but be careful very messy!!

180 gritt is working fine, going to sand blast the frame and then paint that with engine paint

I would use asphalt shingling J/k but it would get it off quickly
