For the past couple of days the car has not wanted to come out of 4th easily, even though it would shift smoothly into it. Well last night i was driving and all of the sudden the car would not come out of 3rd at all. After pulling over and playing with the shifter and clutch for about five minutes the tranny popped out of 3rd into neutral but the shifter would not move side to side and would not go into 3rd or 4th. It was basically stuck in one place and i could not move the shifter. So on a last ditch effort i tried to put it back into 3rd to just drive it home and the shifter popped loose and would shift fine, except it would not go into 5th. So i cruised home in 4th on the highway, then when i stopped for the second time on the way home it locked up again for about 10 seconds then came loose for the last 2 miles home. When i pulled into the driveway it locked up again, so i left it outside over night... When i came out this morining it was still locked up but i got it loose and put it in the garage. What the heck is going on? I was thinking of changing the tranny fluid and seeing if this helped the situation at all. Any ideas, i have heard trannys go out before and mine did not make any of those noises. I know T-5's are junk but damn, i never powershift mine or beat on it!! Sorry for the long post, thanks for any ideas guys. Nick

I forget.. don't they have a linkage setup above the trans? might be worth greasing that up if there is one...
My buddy had a 90 GT and it wouldn't go into 2nd without a fight... he ended up selling the car before we could fix it tho...

Stuck in gear is usually a synchro on the T-5. Just pick up a $200 Corral special. It will last long enough.

Or a bent shift forks, but more then likely it's a syncro problem, there is a few people around here that will do it for pretty cheap. It's not something you want to tackle unless you know what your doing!

I would say it is a syncro problem too. But I did have on tranny that I sent part of the imput shaft bearing into the trans and it stop shifting for a few days, then came out of it for a few months until it just droped. I would say it would be better and cheaper to rebulted it now because most of the time it does not get any better.
