Long story short. I've had a Comp R lifter (2500 miles on them) come apart on me. I really wanted the car ready for a local cruise night on Friday. I might still be able to do it, but I'm not real sure about useing my low mileage stockers that I still have on hand with the GM 847 and dual coil springs. Opinions on that anyone?

Very common occurance. those are pretty much black listed on camaroz28.com and impalassforum.com aswell. here is a link to the big thread on the camaro LT1 forum. read this. web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394574-Ryan Edit- just realized you were probably asking about the combination of that cam w/ stock lifters. anyway, from a few posts I've read, it doesnt seem like it would be a problem. I'd reccomend a quick search on camaroz28.com though.

Thanks, I read camaross.com quite a bit and posted this same question over there. I ended up putting the stockers in and it runs great for now. I was well aware of the problems with the Comp Rs when I was looking into aftermarket lifters. I called Comp before I bought them and they assured me that the problem with the retainers had been resolved. I guess they lied. Oh well. It's okay for now.

You most likely over tightened the rockers. Comp R's dont require nearly as much preload as stockers. Many people tighten them to zero lash or just a hair past it without problems.
