Does anyone know if a gas tank from an 80-85 Mustang 4 banger will fit a 1989 GT. My g/f's dad has to remove the tank from his 85 stang to enter it in a demo and I was gonna buy it off of him to replace the leaky one that I have.

Thank You for responding. Every site I could find on the topic said that the gas tanks are not compatible. The tank Summit sells for an 89 say 86-93 nothing about the earlier fox bodies.

the only thing i could see that would be different may be the way your pickup goes down into the tank

Tell you the truth I do not know yet until I drop the engine. All I know is that when I fill the tank it drips a little bit. Also the fuel guage only works when it is almost empty then it shoots down from Full to Empty.

Its probably the O-ring that seals the fill tube to the tank. They get ripped during fuel pump installs. I believe Nick just turned his upside down and it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the tip I have never done anything with a fuel tank so I am not aware of all the parts on it. Makes sense as knowing what O-Rings are used for on everything else. I guess I will see this spring when I drop the tank.
