I have a question for you guys who are SCT tuning literate. I don't really know what i need? I have a 2002 mustang GT, by the way. But I'll tell you guys what i plan on doing and want to know if you guys could steer me towards the SCT XCAL2 tuner or the SCT 4-bank chip. I plan on installing 4.10 gears and the typical bolt on stuff. I like the fact of having the tuner so i can check CEL's and stuff, but i also like the idea of the chip so i can change tunes "on the fly" without having to shut the car off and plug in the tuner and stuff. Also, whenever i need to get it tuned, how much does it cost to get chips "reburnt" compared to just getting a tune downloaded to the tuner and plugging it in? Sorry if this gets confusing, but i need to figure this out before spring because thats when im doing the gears and the tuner or chip to correct the speedo thats goin to be messed up. thanks guys.

I would get a tuner, if for nothing else, to be able to datalog and check codes. How many times are you going to change tunes in the middle of driving? I did a lot of research when I got my last tune. If you get the right tune, one is all you need for every day driving. I think 3 is the most tunes you would need, and luckily, that's what SCT XCal2 holds. 1 for every day (though mine is still a race tune), one with a higher octane for the track, and 1 for valet mode. I can't imagine any time where I would need to change my tune in the middle of driving. My race tune has tons of attitude, but it's still fully streetable. Just have to watch it in parking lots lol.

The only reason to have a flip chip is if you need to store more than 1 tune in your car. That is really only necessary if you need to have multiple tunes stored for different boost levels or nitrous applications.
I would go with the XCal 2 simply because it's all you need and they're proven to work well.

Your best bet for end user tuning would be the XCal 2. It runs $379 and you can read codes and delete them, do real time datalogging (on screen and record for view with SCT's livelink software) plus you can get a $25 cable with it that allows you to have tunes sent to your computer and then you just download them to the tuner, you can also tweek the tunes on the computer. Overall it's the best buy IMHO!! If your interested shoot me a pm
Majority of on site tuning is around $150+ hour, mail orders tunes sent via e-mail are most of the time around $75+ a tune. It's really all preference. If you want to change on the fly a chip is your best bet, but if you want more features and more end user ablilty it would be a flasher.

I already have a custom chip we did on a dyno, just need to take out a few points of timing and up the shift points and firmness.
