Website : www.roadrallycharities.com/Midcoast Road Rally 2009 (formerly 20/30 Road Rally) is set to kick off the 4th year of its premier event Saturday September 26th in Des Moines. Over 100 cars are expected to participate this year in the event which will include a lap of the Iowa Speedway in Newton! People will bring everything from daily drivers to exotics (Lambo, Ferarri, Mosler, Lotus, Maseratti, Astin Martin, Rolls Royce have all been seen at past events). Classic cars as well as new cars just off the lot, motorcycles, and trucks have all participated. Here is a list of cars that participated last year - www.roadrallycharities.com/2009/01/2008-midcoast-road-rally-results/The competition is time/distance/speed so it is not about how fast you can drive, but rather how well you can follow directions. Participants are given directions and an average target speed and the winner is the team with the lowest culmulative difference. There will be events at the various checkpoints, some of them you can earn back time by participating. The day starts and ends in Des Moines IA, the end of the rally turns into a big block party for everyone to smiply let loose and have fun. Last year's party was in the streets of downtown Des Moines as several roads were closed to accomidate. This year I believe it is set to end at the West Glenn Town Center in Des Moines. Its a great event and all proceedes go to charity. I hope some of you guys come up, it will be a lot of fun. All the sprit and atmosphere of Cannonball Run (with the costumes/silly cars to match) without the excessive reckless driving. I was up in Ames this weekend and the guys got a hold of my car and dressed it up "gumball" style, so it is more or less a rolling billboard for the event. I'll try and be driving the car more than usual for the next couple weeks to drum up some participants from the area. If you see me, flag me down and I can give out fliers and answer questions and the like. I should be pretty easy to spot :-) In two weeks all the vynal comes off and its back to normal. Hope to see some of you there, if you have questions shoot me a PM or reply here.

My brother and I are in! Sounds like it should be a riot! Cool! I'm having some more fliers sent down. Any suggestions as to where I should distribute them around town? I hit some of the auto parts stores in Davenport yesterday.

But seriously, you should consider going. You would find it was well worth your while.
That reminds me, I have the Production DVD of the 2008 event if anyone wants to borrow it to see what its all about, just let me know.

We are going up Friday night as well. I'm not sure where we are staying yet, I'll have to see where I can get a good rate for that day. I would be fun to meet up though. Nathan

That sounds like a ball and I would love to participate ... But they are delivering the materials for our new shop.
Make sure to let us know when the event is next year.
And good luck.

It was a great time, over 100 cars turned out despite a threat of rain! My team figured out some tips and tricks we hope to use to be on the podium next year as well :-) More pictures to come, but this one will get you started. Its a panorama of the whole group posing on the starting line of the Iowa Speedway. You can zoom in, scroll around, change angles etc. and see who all was there! photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=3761996F-71CC-43F5-AA48-36B3C290FA94

Sorry for the late notice - but this is happening again this weekend for the 2010 roadrally. I know some other people on here are going. I think there are over 100 teams registered already. More info: www.roadrallycharities.com/welcome/
