I might be there. Probably not racing though since I'm trying to sell the car.

Nate were you getting tired of having to hold it in gear? Yep, and a few other things. Replacing the transmission with one I've never used, but came from the same car I stole the engine from. Hopefully it has no major problems, all gears appear to be there based on me sticking a shift lever into it and turning the input shaft by hand. Also replaced the open 4.222 diff with a welded 4.875 so I'm not spinning the inside tire so terribly trying to exit a corner. The 4.875 should give me some more pep for autocross too, but I won't be taking the car on the highway anymore :-) Having a transmission that won't pop out of 1st gear should let me power through tight corners even with 0 slip in the diff and quite possibly make for some fun sliding. Replacing the distributor with an electronic model since the car was tuned halfass around a distributor with no advance (came from a high rpm race motor where changing advance was not desired). Also wiring up the alternator so I can run the electric fan without fear of draining my battery. Last but certainly not least - When pulling the halfshafts found that the bolt that held my rear swaybar to the L rear suspension vanished at some point (probably a long time ago). So the swaybar was effectively useless at the last autocross and possibly the one before that and I just never noticed because the linkage hangs about where it should attach even when not bolted in. Not having that probably did not help my wheelspin problem I'm sure. In any case... I am hoping for good things. I have never made this many changes at one time so we'll have to see what the result is. Hopefully it gets it at least competitive with some of the other cars, even if it is not competitive in its class. And better get the slicks coated with shoe polish so you can use them up. I'm not sure if I want to try and slip the slicks past tech after they refused to let me run them last time. I'm sure if I could shave the old lettering off and fill some of the weather cracks with polish they would look like new... But probably not worth the risk of getting thrown out and being "That guy". Maybe I'll run them someday with another club, I don't see why they are unsafe as all cracking is not deep and on the sidewall. But after they've been refused there once I don't want to bring them back again. The odd thing is they let me run them before in the same condition, just a judgment call. I suspect washing the dust/dirt off them would have helped before trying to tech them, but alas... :-) New slicks just are not in the budget right now, so I guess it is another competition on crappy street tires in a race tire class. Nate

I'm planning on going. Not running the z06, but I'd like to observe. Never even seen an autocross event!

That is a lot of changes for once, but all are in the right direction.
It will be fun trying to catch you this time!!!!
Inconsistency is one thing that I've noticed at the events. It seems to be up to the race director at each event.

Since vie never been to his, I'm not sure where to go. I found this site though, www.sccagrr.com/calendar/. So it looks like the event starts at 11:00 and is at the Davenport Municipal Airport? That's what google came up with under Iowa Air National Guard, Mt Joy anyway. Somebody confirm this when they get some time, looks like my wife and I are planning on going. thanks!

Well... Bad news. Been fighting the clutch since 10am this morning off and on but I think I have to throw in the towel on getting the Sprite operational to go racing. Seems the master cylinder for the clutch gave up on me while I had the engine out, nothing I've tried all day has succeeded in getting any pressure in the hydraulic system and there just isn't much else left it could be at this point. I had to bleed the system just to get the car to go into gear after winter so I suppose I should have taken that as a sign something wasn't solid anymore.
I'll still race though, time to bring the luxo-barge 540i back from retirement!
Also, Demon - Plan on showing up at 9 and running your car :-) Trust me, if you don't you'll wish you had by mid afternoon. It is safe, and fun!

If I end up coming, I wont be running for sure. Got family in town I didn't know was gonna be here, and am swapping some wheels with another guy some time tomorrow, so I won't be able to race.

Anything special I need for the first time other then the usual helmet, pants, etc. It is quite a bit different then drag racing. Basically take everything out of the car, the brake pedal must hold pressure, and the wheels must not wobble. If you don't have a helmet there are loaners available. You can even race with the windows down in shorts!

Do they still hold the event if it's raining? They do still hold the events in the rain. However, I think the rain will be keeping me away since there is basically no shelter from the rain when you are not running.

There are some dark skys to the West but no rain here in Geneseo. Kind of playing wait and see.
According to Weather.com the rain is out of here before 11.
